I've spent years testing hundreds of wax, wick, vessel, and fragrance combinations across multiple wax systems. The methodology I use today wasn't developed overnight. It evolved through thousands of hours of testing, documenting results, and learning which observations actually lead to better wick decisions.

Every candle follows the same structured evaluation methodology I've developed through years of testing hundreds of wax, wick, vessel, and fragrance combinations. Rather than relying on a single burn or first impression, I evaluate your candle as a complete system over multiple burn cycles to identify why it's performing the way it is.

Each diagnostic includes up to 4 candles burned in controlled 4-hour burn sessions under standard consumer use conditions. Testing continues through multiple burn cycles until a clear performance pattern has been established.

Every burn session is documented with detailed notes, photographs, and video before recommendations are made. I don't make wick recommendations after a single burn because one burn rarely tells the whole story.

By the end of your evaluation, you'll know:

• which wick is performing best
• whether your candle is underwicked or overwicked
• if production variables are affecting your results
• what changes I recommend
• and most importantly, why

Every evaluation includes:

• Pre-burn inspection of each submitted candle

• Verification of vessel dimensions, fill weight, and production consistency

• Multi-cycle burn testing under standardized conditions

• Flame behavior, melt pool progression, soot, mushrooming, and combustion analysis

• Hot throw and overall fragrance performance observations

• High-resolution photo and video documentation throughout the evaluation

• A comprehensive written performance report after each burn session

• Final performance summary with recommendations for wick selection and production improvements

My Evaluation Methodology

When evaluating a candle, I don't look at the wick in isolation. Wick performance is only one variable in a much larger system.

Each diagnostic considers factors including:

• Vessel dimensions and geometry

• Wick placement and preparation

• Fill consistency

• Wax surface condition

• Flame stability

• Melt pool development

• Combustion behavior

• Soot and mushrooming

• Fragrance performance

• Overall burn consistency from beginning to end

By removing as many production variables as possible, I can make recommendations based on evidence rather than guesswork.

My goal is to teach you how to see what I'm seeing. Every recommendation includes the observations that led me there, giving you a framework you can use on every future test.
